The Garcha Hotel, Santiago. Stepping through the 1920's walnut revolving doors of the old street bar, Anouska Hempel has created the revival of the 'City Hotel' in the Downtown area between the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino and the Cathedral. Honouring the Hotel's past she has confidently, with a contemporary outlook, blended leathers and bronzes. Artefacts and polo memorabilia recall the days of cigars, whiskey and smoke. Playfully infusing, with a knowing wink, the Chilean love of horses and falconry. The Hotel has two soaring atriums vying for credibility with the Cathedral spire. Wild, wonderful and wilful in its strength. Opening 2014, 42 Historical Rooms, 12 Suites and 16 Contemporary Penthouses.
