BLAKES AMSTERDAM

Anouska Hempel restored the oven doors and original brick floor of the bakery that flourished here from 1787 until 1811, with its warmth, comfort and permanence; then made a restaurant that stimulated the senses. Disciplined rows of lamps against dramatic black and white; a black lacquered floor to reflect, and repeat, glimmers of light; the exciting geometry of table settings with memories of blue and white Nanking cargo china form the backdrop for eclectic food that cherry-picks from East and West.
